Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series, Before we dive in, our readers would love to learn a bit about your “origin story”. Can you tell us about your childhood and beginnings in music?

Ofcourse, my love for music started at a very young age thanks to my grandfather, Carlos Arturo Acosta, from Villanueva, Guajira, who passed on to me the passion for vallenato music. I also remember learning to play with the same guitar that my dad gave to my mom when they were just dating; that guitar still plays in the house. My beginnings in music were marked by very special moments, including the revelation of photos from my childhood and adolescence.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music, and how did your journey in the industry begin?

My inspiration came mainly from my family and the musical heritage of my grandparents. That’s how I began my musical career, as a member of the successful duo Gusi & Beto (2006–2013). Later, I decided to follow my path as a solo artist, releasing my seventh album “Monte Adentro” in 2024, which features a blend of vallenato, tropical rhythms, and pop.

What is the most interesting story that has happened to you since you started your career?

Without a doubt, the most interesting and significant moment since I began my career has been the recent privilege of bringing together 12 vallenato artists to create the social vallenato of Club. This project has not only been a great professional achievement but has also had a positive impact on the community, showcasing the power of music to unite and transform.

Can you share the story of the funniest mistake you made at the beginning of your career? What lesson did you learn from that experience?

At the start of my career, I remember one time when I forgot the lyrics of a song during a live performance. Although it was quite embarrassing at the moment, I now look back on it with humor and as a valuable lesson. I learned the importance of preparation and staying calm under pressure. This experience taught me to view each mistake as an opportunity to grow and improve.

Is there anyone in particular you’re grateful to for helping you get where you are? Can you share a story about that?

I am deeply grateful to several people who have been pillars in my life and career. My mom, who enrolled me in the music program, has been crucial in getting me to where I am today. In my professional career, figures like Carlos Vives and Emilio Estefan have been essential. Carlos Vives has inspired and supported me at many moments, while Emilio Estefan has been an invaluable mentor and guide in the development of my career. Their support and teachings have been key to my journey.

What has been the most interesting project or role of your career and why?

The most interesting project of my career is, without a doubt, the Vallenato Social Club. While I am very grateful for previous projects, like my start with the duo Gusi and Beto, with whom I received Grammy nominations, and my nomination last year with Monte Adentro, Vallenato Social Club stands out. This project brings together 12 vallenato artists on a single album, with songs I wrote and designed according to each artist’s style. It is the most exciting project so far, especially because of the satisfaction of seeing each artist accept to be part of this dream.

Can you share some details about your creative process? How do you approach songwriting and musical collaborations?

My creative process usually starts with an idea or an emotion that I want to express. First, I sit down with my guitar or piano and start playing with melodies and chords. Once I have a musical base, I work on the lyrics, making sure the words flow naturally with the music. As for collaborations, I love working with other artists because each one brings their own style and perspective. Communication and openness are key to making a successful collaboration.

If I could inspire a movement, it would be to continue uplifting vallenato music and contribute to the community of Colombians and Latinos abroad. I want to create value in the world through music, changing fear into melodies that connect and heal. Music has the power to unite people and create a lasting positive impact.

Is there anyone in the world, or in the U.S., with whom you would love to share a private breakfast or lunch? Why?
